Allan Machielse by Bobby AlcottAllan Machielse is a Detroit-based fine art photographer and architect. He received a B.S. in Architecture and a M.S. in Architecture from Lawrence Technological University.

Working primarily in the Detroit area, architectural training informs Allan's vision of the city's sublime monuments as threatened ruins. Although a 'straight-shooter,' his photographs transcend documentation, becoming artistic statements that probe the question of historic preservation as the city's path to revival. Images which both celebrate and mourn Detroit's grandiose structures evoke comparisons with antiquity. Dark, abandoned interiors are infused with an ethereal light offering the promise of rediscovery and renewal. These wrenching 'still lifes' have been shown in solo and group exhibits at galleries throughout metropolitan Detroit.
